GENERAL INTRODUCTION

A LAND OF AMAZING DIVERSITY

Nepal, a land of ageless traditions, living legends, fantastic and fabulous festivals and majestic mountains has amazing diversity in all it has to offer to her visitors belonging to all ages and socio-economic brackets. It is a country for all seasons ! On the North, Nepal’s landlocked geographical existence is bounded by the territories of Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China and on the south, east to west by India. Though the country covers an area of 885 kilometers from east to west and 193 kilometers from north to south, it has unimaginable wonders to explore.

A land of amazing extremes and diversities, Nepal has the highest mountain peaks in the world including Mt. Everest. It is known as land of Eight- Thousanders with perennial snow and glaciers from where the rivers that flow wild in the hills and calm in the plains find their origin. A country endowed with lush green valleys and thick forest plains providing the best habitat to Royal Bengal Tigers, and the famous one-horned rhinoceros, Nepal is a paradise for the bird watchers as it has possibly the largest concentration of the species, about 850.

The climate ranges from tropical to arctic varying with altitude from 70 meters to 8848 meters above the sea-level. One may, if s/he wishes, experience both the tropical temperatureup to 38 Celsius and the alpine temperature the same day by taking a short flight to the mountains. World Heritage List has included nine Nepalese heritages in it. Seven of them are in the valley of Kathmandu within the radius of 20 kms.

Nepal is known all over for her most exotic natural and cultural resources and is a destination that finds no parallel for adventure in the tourism map of the world. This country is a Himalayan pilgrimage, it is the wildest dream of Kew, a country of as many Gods as many people, as many temples as many houses and as many festivals as many the number of days in a year, also known as the land of Johny Gurkha, Shangri-la and nature’s amphitheatre.

Entry Visa is an essential requirement for all tourists visiting Nepal, except Indian nationals. Visa can be obtained from any Nepalese Embassy or Consulate around the world and are given at all entry points upon arrival.

All major credit cards (VISA Card, American Express, Master Card, JCB) are accepted in almost all the hotels, restaurants, shopping centers etc. There are almost a dozen commercial banks, money exchange centers as well as Western Union Money Transfers in the capital city of Kathmandu. However, for practical purposes it is strongly recommended that you carry small change and money along with you while out for trekking or sight-seeing purposes as those places may not always have banking facilities.

Naturally NEPAL – Once is not enough!
